Nebraska fans will experience a blast from the past when the Cornhuskers take on Louisiana-Lafayette in September.

The game will be the 300th sell out of Memorial Stadium. To commemorate the occasion, the athletic department has announced plans for the football team to take the field wearing replica uniforms that look like the kind the 1962 Huskers wore.

The throwback uniforms will be auctioned off on Huskers.com sometime during the fall.

Jerseys, helmets and pants will be part of the auction. The auction will begin during the first week of fall football practice and ends the week of Oct. 4.  The minimum bids for each set will be $500.

The athletic department has also invited all of the coaches and players from 1962 season to join the festivities and to be honored during the game.

Nebraska was coached by Bob Devaney in 1962. His daughter Patricia and son Mike will be in attendance to be part of the ceremonies.

Athletic Director Tom Osborne thinks it’s important to pay homage to Devaney for his work in building the program.

“We want to thank Bob Devaney and his family for getting it all started back in 1962,” Osborne said.

Nebraska’s first sellout came during the homecoming contest against Missouri in 1962 with a capacity crowd of 31,080.

The Louisiana-Lafayette game will start at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on pay per view through Fox Sports Net.
